Wellness Ball – Well Done!
With only a six weeks lead time, the inaugural Wellness Ball held on 4 May 2012 proved how much can be achieved within a small amount of time but with a large amount of effort and commitment by all involved.
The Wellness Ball is the brainchild of its co founders, Cr Jenny Mulholland (Chairperson) and Karen Nichol (Project Manager). The Ball was held at the MCG with pre dinner drinks in the Jim Stynes Room and dinner and dancing in the Olympic Room. The event was a resounding success with $29,192.29 being raised to support the eagerly awaited Olivia Newton – John Cancer and Wellness Centre which was recently opened at Austin Health. The aims of the Ball were very specific and the money is already being used to set up a resource library at the Centre and to fund Oncology Massage Therapy programs for patients with cancer who attend the Centre.
The reasons for the great outcome are primarily twofold, firstly the vision, determination and sheer hard work of the small but energetic Wellness Ball Committee led by Jenny and Karen and secondly the generosity and support provided by local businesses and members of the community, many of whom provided sponsorships and donations of prizes as well as attending the Ball.
The Wellness Ball will now be an annual event and preliminary planning has already commenced for 2013. The Olivia Newton-John Cancer & Wellness Centre will stand amongst the best in the world, delivering the most thorough and individualised cancer treatments and care currently available. The Wellness Ball Committee would welcome any assistance with future fundraising activities to support this very special Centre.
