Latest News: Hatch Contemporary Arts Space launch

Jenny at the Ivanhoe Arts space

“Dear Jenny,

I am writing  to congratulate you for voting $150,000 to the budget for  the proposed Cultural Vault in Banyule.

It will go some way toward putting our city in line with other councils that have permanent community access space to art  and make the arts identifiable and accessible to everyone.

It is good to know that  you are aware that  a city with the cultural heritage of Banyule, needs an area that is  designated for a full time gallery.

I look forward to the near future when a contemporary arts community space for local artists, art lovers and indeed all of the community is a reality.

Thank you for listening to the rate payers.

Yours Sincerely,

Jan Macdonald”

Mervyn Napier Waller was a well known artist of the mid 20th century, specialising in mosaic art, stained glass and water colour.

“When first getting on to Council I was faced with one of the hardest decisions of my life on behalf of the Citizens’ of the City of Banyule. This decision was also for the wider community of Victoria & Australia. Banyule Council were asked to wave the rates of the historical Napier Waller House. I was able to convince my fellow Councillors that this was the right thing to do.  After 3 long months the decision was made and Napier Waller House in Crown Road Ivanhoe is now in good hands for generations to enjoy.”
