Women in Business lunch

Good afternoon and welcome to Banyule.  My name is Jenny Mulholland and I am the Griffin Ward Councillor for Banyule City Council.

Firstly, I would like to start by acknowledging that today’s event takes place on the traditional lands of the Wurrundjeri People, and I would like to pay my respects to their elders past and present and any elders from other communities who may be here today.

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the fifth Women in business lunch, which has attracted a record attendance of over 240 registrations.

A special welcome this afternoon to:

  • Councillors from Banyule –Craig Langdon and Steven Briffa.
  • Megan Quinn, our guest speaker
  • Nan Caple, Director of the Heidelberg and East Ivanhoe Community Bank Branches
  • Sam Pearce, Branch Manager, Heidelberg Community Bank Branch
  • Jane O’Brien and Caitlyn White –  Department of State Development, Business and Innovation
  • David Dzanovski, President, Ivanhoe Traders Association
  • And to all traders from Ivanhoe East Ivanhoe Heidelberg Greensborough

This lunch is one of the ways that Banyule Council supports both current and prospective businesses to thrive in our municipality. Council’s business development initiatives are led by our economic development unit and include the provision of information and advice as well as several training and networking opportunities throughout the year. For more information on how we can support your business we encourage you to speak to the economic development team or visit our business website located at www.banyulebusiness.com.au.

In terms of today’s lunch, the Bendigo Bank, the Victorian Government and the Centre Ivanhoe are our sponsors and we are very grateful to them for supporting the event over the past five years which demonstrates their commitment to local business.

We are also delighted to again partner with the Ivanhoe Traders Associations to deliver the fabulous fashion parade that you just witnessed.

Our guest today is a co-founder of internationally acclaimed Net-A-Porter.

From modest launch funding, Net-A-Porter went onto become a fascinating global success story of entrepreneurship, brand development, online strategy and unique levels of customer service.

Prior to the establishment of Net-A-Porter, she built an international career specialising in retailing, advertising and publishing for the fashion, jewellery, hotel and airline industries, and has held a variety of senior executive board roles including with Harrods and Net-A-Porter.
