The purchase of these three school sites is a ”win win” for the community.
As you may know I fought very hard, including running as an independent at the 2006 State election to try to save these schools from closure, particularly Bellfield Primary School.
Unfortunately the then Labor State Government “won” and ultimately closed these three schools.
By purchasing the schools Council can control the development on these sites and in particular retain the Banksia Secondary College basketball courts and turn this area into a sporting/community hub.
Council’s aim is to break even with the purchases, including developing the Banksia sporting precinct.
Council is also committed to developing Bellfield Primary School last and are on record as supporting the retention of this area for educational purposes, if practical. In the meantime we will be having discussions with various parties both State Government and private sector.
Council has recently employed a Manager for School Sites Redevelopment to run this project, including community consultation.
