A lot of planning goes into the development of major projects in our City. These are a few of the major projects proposed in Griffin Ward over the next few years.
Ivanhoe Civic Precinct
Relocating staff to Greensborough paves the way for revitalising the Ivanhoe Civic Precinct. The existing precinct will be redeveloped and make way for a proposed Community Learning Hub which will bring improved and expanded community facilities, including significantly enhanced library services and a community arts space. A new public plaza fronting Upper Heidelberg Road will provide a focal point and meeting place, as well as a great space for community activities.
The redevelopment of the area provides opportunities at the southern end of the precinct for mixed use development, including residential and commercial uses. Council is currently in the process of engaging an architectural consultant to design this new proposed Community Learning Hub that will be located next to Banyule’s iconic Art Deco Town Hall in Ivanhoe.
Ivanhoe Park pavilion redevelopment
Home to 41 football and cricket teams, Ivanhoe Park pavilion is set for an upgrade to meet the clubs’ demands, especially the growing female participation in sport. Female friendly change rooms, unisex toilets and umpire rooms, expanded social room, as well improved canteen facilities will be part of the redevelopment.
Maintaining vital infrastructure
Council has allocated $5.5m in ensuring our roads, streets, bridges and drainage are maintained and upgraded where needed. This includes reconstructions, roads to recovery projects, resheeting, footpaths and public transport infrastructure improvements.
