It was back in 2009 that the idea of a community arts space first came in to being – in partnership with the Heidelberg School Art Foundation, Banyule commissioned a gallery feasibility study.

Two recommendations arose from that study: the first, a community arts space to exhibit works from the Banyule Art Collection and engage the local community in arts projects across the municipality; the second a multi-million dollar initiative, currently known as The Impressionist Lab, which would be an iconic and sustainably designed art gallery and education centre.

And here we are.  Delivering on that first recommendation.

Welcome to Hatch Contemporary Arts Space!

Hatch will provide a wellspring of creativity for the Banyule community with exhibitions, performances, workshops, artists in residence and more. I encourage you to see what this new initiative provides in the future and no doubt, you will be inspired, challenged and awed.

Hatch provides a space for people to reflect, discuss and critically debate diverse arts practices and their relationship with and contribution to contemporary life.
