After lobbying for my 16 years on council, VicRoads is finally introducing a permanent 40km/h speed limit throughout the Ivanhoe shopping precinct effective 6 September 2016.
This change impacts both Upper Heidelberg Road and Livingstone Street with the map below identifying the extent of the 40km/h area.
Previous efforts – 40km/h in Heidelberg Shopping Centre:
Following a joint Council/traders campaign since 2003, In August 2014 VicRoads indicated that approval will be given for the installation the first stage of a permanent 40km/h zone, including the area bounded by Upper Heidelberg Road, Lower Heidelberg Road, Bell Banksia Link and Darebin Street.
A second stage Burgundy Street (Upper Heidelberg Rd to StudleyRd) will be approved later following some required infrastructure works.
This will make the street much safer for all road users but particularly shoppers and patrons of the hospital precinct.
